The Controlled Substances Act of 1970 classified magic mushrooms as a schedule I substance, but that classification was revoked in 2001. Although it is now classified with substances like heroin and LSD, it is not subject to the same punishments as those substances. While still being classified as a schedule I drug, there are no laws prohibiting the cultivation or possession of mushrooms.

Most people can consume magic mushrooms without worrying about negative side effects. In contrast to other recreational drugs, they do not cause blood pressure to rise or other negative physical changes in your body. Almost everyone can safely utilize magic mushrooms.
